SERVICE AGREEMENT INFORMATION YOU SHOULD KNOW
6 Things to Consider Before You Hire a Private Investigator:
1. Does the investigator have a valid PI License? (This is easy to determine by simply visiting the state website.)
2. Does the investigator give you a clear understanding of the hourly rate for services? (The hourly rate range for licensed private investigators in the NJ area is between $75/hr. - $125/hr. depending on the detective agency.)
3. Does he or she clearly explain the investigative strategy that will be employed to accomplish your objectives? (After speaking with the investigator, there should no confusion about what you are paying the agency to do.)
4. Does the investigator give you a sense of confidence? (Investigators should not give guarantees, however, you need to feel good about who you are working with.)
5. Does the investigator agree to keep you informed with “real time” status reports from field investigators? (You should not be kept in dark or out of the loop with regard to anything involving your case.)
6. Do you have a retainer aggreement?

A written agreement outlining the relationship between our service and any of the above is required. Private citizens may have access if the information retrieval falls within the preview of the Privacy Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the GLB Act. Under the new federal guidelines, we may ID a SSN (name, address, dob); however, the SSN will not be furnished to you. The social security number will be used by our office to determine positive ID only.
IMPORTANT: There are many companies offering Investigative Services who are NOT Licensed Investigators and are therefore operating illegally. Therefore be careful and demand that the company provide you with their License Number and then verify it through New Jersey at (609) 633-9352.
